Tom Melsheimer and Justice Craig Smith took time to talk about trial law with students at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law who are learning all about it. The two, authors of “On the Jury Trial, Principles and Practices for Effective Advocacy, Second Edition,” were guests of Mike Golden, Director of Texas Law’s Advocacy Program.
Topics discussed included how to get trial experience as a young lawyer, mistakes that drive judges crazy, and how effective cross examination often can be polite and friendly. Both veteran trial lawyers, Mr. Melsheimer is Global Head of Trial at King & Spalding and serves as the Managing Partner of the Dallas office, and Justice Smith sits on the Texas Fifth Court of Appeals in Dallas.
